Geography Glossary

Dam: A wall built across a river that stops the river`s flood.
Collide: To hit something violently.
Ash: The soft black powder that is left after a substance
Ridge: Narrow raised part of a surface.
Mesas: A mountain with a large, flat top.
Creeks: A narrow area of water that flows into  the land to a sea.
Ravine: A deep narrow valley with steep sides.
Plain: A large area of flat land.
FloodPlain: An area of flat near a river that isoften flooded when the river becomes too full.
Fresh: In a natural condition rather than artificially preserved by a process such as freezing.
Brine: Water with salt in it.
Delta: An area of low, flat land, sometime shapped like a triangle.
Basin: The area of land from wich streams run into a river.
Peninsula: A piece of land surrouned by water on all sides except one.
Cape: Part of the land that extends from the coast line into the sea.
Island: A piece of land completely surrouned by water.
Archipielago: A group of islands.
Gulf: An area of sea surrouned by land in three side.
Bay: It is similar to gulf but smaller.

  1. The landforms' vocabulary is fine. NOw you have to complete it with the landscape.
